Dr. Meg Lowman
Pioneer of Forest Canopy Science Executive Director, Tree Foundation
Dr. Meg Lowman, also known as Canopy Meg, is a world-renowned forest canopy explorer, educator, ecologist, writer, and public speaker. She is a pioneer in canopy ecology, and her work has helped to revolutionize our understanding of the life that thrives in the treetops.
Dr. Lowman has conducted canopy research in 46 countries across seven continents and has authored over 200 peer-reviewed scientific publications and several books, including Life in the Treetops (1999), It’s a Jungle Up There (2006), and The Arbornaut (2021). She is also the founder and executive director of TREE Foundation, a non-profit organization that promotes tree research, education, and exploration.
In addition to her scientific research, Lowman is passionate about educating the public about the importance of forests and forest conservation. She is a frequent speaker at schools, universities, and conferences, and her work has been featured in numerous media outlets, including National Geographic, The New York Times, and BBC.
Dr. Lowman is a recipient of numerous awards and honors for her work, including The Explorers Medal, the National Geographic Explorer Award, the AAAS Newcomb Cleveland Prize, and the Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement. She is also a member of the National Academy of Sciences.
